Western Washington Second Rut Blacktail Tactics
« on: December 05, 2023, 02:08:21 PM »
Anyone have any suggestions or tactics for Western Washington blacktails during second rut?

Timing of the rut roughly? - Have read around Mid-Dec but obviously changes for each area.

Tactics? -Any thing hunters do or focus on specifically during this time period vs regular season?

Any advice would all be greatly appreciated. I've got the multi-season tag and have passed on three small bucks thus far, but would rather have some meat in the freezer vs tag soup.

Been still hunting using ground blinds, rattling, calling, and also tree stands. Tried some apples over some blinds early season.

Thanks!

Already started in Eatonville

I'd say the early girls get taken care of and the later ones might get missed more so that puts you around the 1st 2 weeks of December.

That pic is from my buddies place and he had a many as 8 or 10 different bucks on his cam this year. Not sure how anyone could get missed but I guess she was sneaky. :chuckle:
